Talking to teachers, coaches, and extended family

Make sure you speak with other people involved in the children’s lives to let them know about the change happening in the family. It is important that friends, teachers, counselors, and coaches are aware of the situation so that they understand and can support a child who is withdrawn, emotional or “acting out”.

Coaches, teachers, daycare workers and other caregivers will need to know who to call in case of an emergency, as well as any change in who may pick up the children.

Extended family members who are close to the children can also offer important emotional support, provided that they who do not openly “take sides”.
