Children need to know about the different strategies they can use to help them cope with the separation or divorce. The Strategies section of the Teen Guide and Tools in the Kids' Guide were developed with this in mind. The sites tell children about their rights and responsibilities, and provide them with tools for dealing with various situations. They learn what to do if they feel caught in the middle of their parents' conflict, how and when to speak up, tips for coping with the separation or divorce, and what to do if there is abuse in the home.
The information offered here will familiarize you with these strategies, as well as what you can do to help guide your children along the way. Your parental responsibilities will be discussed, as well as the rights and responsibilities of your children.
Ideally, both parents will want to be involved in this process, but each family’s situation is unique – it may be up to only one parent to offer guidance to the children at this time.
